Making Time for Individualized Daily Reading (IDR) Webinar
Wednesday, December 7, 2011 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM (PST)
4:30 Eastern/1:30 Pacific Time
Of all the data we collect on students as readers, the information gathered through conferring is perhaps the most critical. But how do we justify giving up instructional time for independent reading time? Where does it fit into an already overcrowded day? And what's the best way to structure this crucial time with students and keep track of what we learn about them as readers?
Join Making Meaning teacher and staff developer Stacey Abeyta to learn not only why IDR is an essential component of any reading program, but how to make and manage time for IDR and individual reading conferences every single day. Bring your questions as well as your suggestions to this lively, interactive exchange of ideas.
About the Presenter
Stacey Abeyta is a primary teacher and has used DSC's programs and pedagogy for seven years. She also works as a staff developer and has taught teachers all over the United States.
"When I really want to know how a reader is doing, I look to conferring. Talking with my students about their reading lives is where I get to know them well. I also glean information about how well they are incorporating the comprehension strategies we have worked on in class into their own reading experiences through Individualized Daily Reading (IDR) time." — Stacey Abeyta
